Adding THIS fruit to the diet may help you lose belly fat

belly-fat-reduced-by-eating-this-fruit(NaturalHealth365)  One of the most stubborn places on the body to lose weight is the abdominal area.  Unfortunately, for many people, belly fat is tough to get rid of … plus adds an increased risk of heart disease and other medical issues.  So, when science provides some clues about reducing belly fat, many people sit up and pay attention.

A recent 12-week study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that women who were overweight experienced a reduction in belly fat after adding a fresh Hass avocado to their daily diet.  However, participants who did not eat the avocados experienced a much lower rate of loss of belly fat or none at all.

Study shows avocados help reduce belly fat

The study not only confirmed what many people already know, that avocados are great for weight loss, but it also revealed they are particularly effective at eradicating belly fat.  This fruit (yes, avocado is a fruit) is brimming with monounsaturated fats.  These fats boost the body’s fat-burning capability after eating.  They also help to prevent the accumulation of belly fat.

Avocados have a ton of nutrients, such as vitamins C, E, K, B6, magnesium, niacin, and potassium.  They are also high in omega 3 fatty acids and have a high fiber content.  This contributes to a prolonged feeling of fullness which can help curb the appetite.

Avocados offer a variety of other health benefits

Aside from the tremendous nutritional value of avocados, they are also instrumental in improving heart health.  The super healthy monounsaturated fats get the credit for that as well as for helping to lower blood pressure as well as cholesterol.  It’s the high fiber, folate, and potassium that most benefit the cardiovascular system, especially the heart.

Better eye health is another benefit that you get when you add avocados to your diet.  They are a rich source of carotenoids which studies have shown improve eye health, especially as we age.

Simple ways to incorporate avocados into your daily diet

Adding an avocado a day to your diet is surprisingly easy.  Although picking a fresh avocado may be a bit intimidating, it’s easier than you think.  First, choose a light green avocado that is very firm. Then, ripen it on your counter for about two or three days, in a paper bag or with other fruits.  Do not put it in the refrigerator.  Your avocado is ripe when you can press it with your finger, and the flesh feels fairly soft under your touch.

The flavor is mild and goes well with many other foods.  However, you can always just eat it by itself.  Simply cut the avocado, remove the pit and skin, and add your favorite herbs, like a dash of cayenne or a little garlic powder.  Of course, you can also eat it plain if you prefer.

Add avocado slices to your salads and sandwiches, top your chicken or fish, or mash it and add onion, then spread it on toast and top with an egg.  The possibilities are endless, so experiment and find recipes that you like.  Of course, be sure to buy only organic varieties.

In addition to eating avocado, adopt a diet that includes grass-fed, organic lean meats, whole grains, and fresh, organic fruits and vegetables.  You should also stay well hydrated and exercise regularly.

If you have been looking for ways to reduce belly fat, an avocado a day just might be part of your solution.
