Rosemary oil helps to promote hair growth
(NaturalHealth365) Hair loss can diminish confidence and make a person look much older than their years. However, there is compelling evidence that rosemary oil can help put a stop to hair loss and stimulate new hair growth.
It is estimated that by age 50 as much as 85 percent of men and 50 percent of women will have experienced at least some measure of hair loss. (Hair loss in women is often referred to as alopecia.)
Hair loss can be caused by age, hormonal shifts and chronic infections
Male pattern baldness (MPB) occurs when a testosterone byproduct called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) begins to attack hair follicles in the central scalp area. While hair loss can be a natural part of the aging process for some, other possible causes include immune system reactions, hormonal shifts and systemic infections – which can be dealt with safely and effectively.
Research on rosemary oil has been minimal thus far and it may not work better than conventional treatments. However, it offers the promise of a natural solution to hair loss and the promotion of hair growth.
Rosemary oil seems to work best with hair loss related to hormonal changes in testosterone production. A 2013 study of mice that had testosterone-related hair loss showed rosemary oil regrew hair.
Rosemary oil just as effective as Minoxidil for promoting hair growth
A 2015 study found that rosemary oil performed as well as Minoxidil, a popular hair growth treatment, after a study period of 6 months. In fact, the group treated with rosemary oil were found to have slightly more hair growth.
Studies like these indicate the effectiveness of rosemary oil when used over the long term, as none of the subjects in either group showed any regrowth of hair after just 3 months. Those treated with rosemary oil also did not have the side effect of an itchy scalp, while the Minoxidil patients did.
A 2017 study linked rosemary oil with antifungal and antibacterial properties. This makes it an effective treatment for conditions of hair loss called by bacteria and fungi. Rosemary oil has also been linked with improved circulation of the blood and increased skin health, which are important components of healthy hair growth.
Rosemary oil can stop hair loss and promote hair growth without negative side effects
At this time, there is no definitive research on whether rosemary oil can be safely and effectively used in conjunction with traditional treatments such as Minoxidil. No safe dose or frequency of use has been determined; however, there are daily use rosemary shampoos on the market.
Adding a few drops of rosemary oil to your regular shampoo is another idea. Rosemary oil can also be applied in diluted form directly onto the scalp.
Again, patience is key, as rosemary oil may take up to 6 months to start working. However, persistent use of rosemary oil could reduce hair loss and promote new hair growth – without the side effects of using chemical-based products.
Of course, we should not forget the overall importance of a clean, healthy diet – rich in minerals – and minimizing our exposure to environmental toxins. All of this will likely generate positive results.
