Calendula or Pot Marigold (Calendula officinalis, Asteraceae) is a useful medicinal herb as well as a beautiful flower that's easy to grow in your backyard garden. The petals are edible, contain powerful anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties and the entire flower can be made into a tea.
Fresh petals can be cut from the flower and eaten or made into a variety of healing salves and rubbed on the skin for a variety of healing benefits from healing ulcers when taken orally to relieving scrapes, burns and abbrasions when used topically. Contraindicated for pregnant women.
A tea can also be brewed from the entire flower that can be used topically for rashes, scrapes, burns, abbrasions, and even internally as a healing tea.
