(NaturalHealth365) The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued its warning that certain type-2 diabetes medications, that are SGLT2 (sodium-glucose cotransporter-2) inhibitors, can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis – a very serious health condition.

But, with all the corruption within the FDA – there are serious doubts whether anything will really be done to protect the public from being harmed by these toxic drugs. The medications in question, dapagliflozin by Farxiga and AstraZeneca, canagliflozin by Invokana and Johnson & Johnson, empagliflozin by Jardiance and Lilly/Boehringer and some other combination products were all said to cause these life-threatening problems in at least 20 people.

The problems with type-2 diabetes and its convention drug ‘therapies’

Type-2 diabetes affects more than 28 million Americans – mostly due to poor dietary choices, including the use of artificial sweeteners.  Their bodily functions cannot correctly move glucose from the bloodstream to use it as energy. This is caused by deficient insulin in the blood or an insulin resistance and can eventually cause worse damage like blindness, kidney failure, the need for amputation, cardiovascular disease and other conditions.

Conventionally speaking, many type-2 diabetes medications work by increasing insulin production and/or sensitivity. SGLT2 inhibitors block the chemical that helps the kidneys to reabsorb glucose back in so it can be conserved. With the enzyme is blocked, the extra is expelled via the urine, thereby lowering blood sugar.

However, this sugar loss can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis. Not to mention, the many other negative side effects of diabetes including weight gain and other metabolic disorders.

Exposing the negative side effects of SGLT2 inhibitors

SGLT2 inhibitor side effects can range from mild and moderate to very severe. They include urinary tract infections, yeast infections, rashes, sun intolerance, loss of energy, low blood pressure, decreased kidney function and other allergic reactions.

What exactly is diabetic ketoacidosis?

Diabetic ketoacidosis results when the body becomes unable to use glucose as energy. When the body’s cells can’t take in enough glucose, it must use its fat stores instead. An acidic by-product of this process called ketones can then build in the bloodstream and lead to a dangerous, life-threatening medical condition.

At least 20 cases of ketoacidosis or ketosis have been reported in patients who took SGLT2 inhibitors in recent years. The time for onset of symptoms was usually around 2 weeks after starting the drug. This condition is not usually found in type-2 diabetes patients; since most type-2 diabetics never experience ketosis, they won’t easily recognize the telling symptoms. However, ketosis symptoms call for immediate medical attention.

Understanding the symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis

Diabetic ketoacidosis symptoms include nausea and vomiting, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, unusual fatigue, confusion and irritability. Excessive thirst and hunger and/or excessive urination are also possible signs.

Sweating, dizziness and fainting can in some cases lead to unconsciousness. Left untreated, diabetic ketoacidosis can lead to swelling of the the brain and premature death.

In some cases, the condition can be triggered by illness conditions like an infection, influenza, urosepsis, trauma, reduced insulin dose, or reduced caloric or fluid intake. Other factors that affected the onset included hypovolemia, acute renal impairment, hypoxemia, reduced oral intake, and a history of alcohol use. However, more than half of the cases reported did not have any of these additional factors.

Obviously, when dealing with diabetes, it’s best to work with a qualified healthcare provider that understands the value (and benefits) of a nutritious diet, detoxification and high-quality nutritional supplements. Just remember, type-2 diabetes is naturally reversible – without the risks associated with dangerous drugs.
